When it comes to vaping styles, there are two different vaping techniques vapers use, mouth-to-lung (MTL) and direct-to-lung (DTL). While it may just sound like two different ways to inhale vapour, the reality is a bit more complex, with different vape devices designed to cater for either MTL or DTL vapers.
If you’re looking to make the switch from smoking to vaping, you’re probably wondering which technique to use and which type of device will be right for you? The good news is that the Vuse blog team is here to help.
What is mouth-to-lung vaping?
Mouth-to-lung vaping is exactly what it sounds like. You inhale the vapour into your mouth, hold it there for a moment, before drawing it all the way into your lungs and then exhale out. This vaping technique closely emulates how smokers smoke a cigarette. So, if you’re a smoker looking to make the switch to vaping, it’s highly likely that you will be best suited to a mouth-to-lung vape device.
For those adult tobacco consumers who don’t wish to stop smoking, switching to vaping products is a potentially reduced risk alternative to smoking traditional cigarettes. If you are worried about the effects of smoking on your health, the best option is to quit smoking and vaping altogether. If you are not currently a smoker, we recommend that you do not start to smoke or vape at all.
What is the best mouth-to-lung vape?
A great mouth-to-lung vape device should be compact, portable and power-efficient. They should have restricted airflow to produce a good level of vapour, but not the huge vape clouds you tend to see cloud chasers create.
The Vuse ePod 2 vape pen is a great example of a mouth-to-lung device. Designed to deliver a quiet, smooth and satisfying taste experience. It’s splash proof and can be charged and ready in 35 mins*. *Device reaches 80% charge from full discharge in 35 minutes when using the correct charging input.
What is direct-to-lung vaping?
Direct-to-lung vaping is when you inhale vapour from the mouthpiece directly into your lungs, bypassing your mouth and taste buds but creating more vapour. This means that your taste buds don’t really get an opportunity to enjoy the flavour of your e Liquid because it’s inhaled over them so quickly.
Direct-to-lung vapers may mix their own e Liquids to a higher concentration to enhance the flavour. This can increase the amount of e Liquid used, driving up the cost.
What is the best direct-to-lung vape?
A great direct-to-lung vape device should have a large mouthpiece, a good battery and a sub-ohm coil. They should have a looser airflow to create more vapour. The sub-ohm coil is important too, as it allows you to produce more vapour without the device getting too hot. These coils require more power than the coils found in mouth-to-lung vape devices. As a result, direct-to-lung vapes tend to be larger with bigger batteries
Is MTL or DTL better?
This will depend on your preferred vaping style. For most ex-smokers wanting to make the switch to vaping, mouth-to-lung will likely be the preferred vaping style as using a MTL device will closely mimic the act of smoking. But, for those that are more experienced with vaping or those vapers wanting to create large clouds of vapour, direct-to-lung vaping will be the preferred vaping option.
