Want to find out more about pod vapes? We go through the differences between closed pod vapes and open pod vapes, so you can choose the right system for you.

Vuse NZ - Pod Vapes Explained

In the last few years, vaping has become a world of its own.  A world of new terminology.  There are bold, innovative and refreshing flavour combinations and more device options than most can keep up with.

We’ve previously shared a broad guide to the different types of vapes  on the market. Today, we are delving further into pod vapes.

Specifically, we’re looking at the differences between open system and closed system pod vapes. Keep reading to find out which type of pod vape is right for you!

What are pod vape devices?

Pod vape devices can be the go-to device for those looking to make the switch from smoking to vaping. Why? Because they’re easy to use and they provide a simple, satisfying vaping experience.

Pod vape devices generally consist of two parts - the main body which holds the battery, and a pod that holds the e Liquid. Pod vapes can be either open system or closed system. Each option has its own pros and cons that can impact your vaping experience.

What is an open system pod vape?

An open pod system allows you to refill the device with e Liquid yourself. These are also referred to as refillable pod devices.

To refill your device you need to unscrew the clearomiser and remove the mouthpiece to open up the e Liquid tank. You then pour the e Liquid flavours of your choice into the tank; put the mouthpiece back on; re-screw the clearomiser and you’re good to go.

Open system devices tend to be used by experienced vapers who understand the different parts of a vape and are happy to fill the e Liquid themselves.

Features of open system pod vapes:

  • Simple and easy to use

Pop in an e Liquid pod and you’re good to go! You don’t have to do any maintenance such as replacing tanks or coils.

  • Convenience on the go

Prefilled e Liquid pods are much easier to carry around with you than the bottles of e Liquid needed for open system pod vapes.

  • Change flavours effortlessly

Closed system pod vapes have pods that can be removed and replaced without leaving any residue from other flavours behind, so you won’t need to clean the tank or worry about unwanted flavour mixing. You can swap between flavours while on the go, before the pod has even run out.

  • Switch e Liquid Strengths

Refillable pods have to be finished or emptied in order to change e Liquid nic salt strengths, whereas closed system pod vapes can switch freely between strengths, hassle-free.

  • They’re mess-free

Refillable pods can be difficult to refill leaving you with a mess, unlike closed system pods where the e Liquid is contained in the sealed pod.

  • They provide a tight draw

Closed pods give you a tight draw experience, which is similar to the experience of smoking.

How long does a vape pod last?

The durability of a vape pod varies depending on various factors, including the frequency of use, the volume of the pod and the individual's vaping habits.

The duration of a vape pod is also affected by the type of e Liquid used since particular flavours or compositions might cause the coil inside the pod to decay faster. Furthermore, some vapers may want to replace their pods more regularly to maintain optimal flavour and vapour output.Â
